So you have decided that attending NRLC 2012 in Washington, DC would be worth your time, and now all you need to do is raise the funds to get there. From experience, if you break it down, the task is far easier than you might think!
So what are the costs? Getting to the convention; registration; Prayer Breakfast and Banquet tickets; Hotel room and food. If the convention is within driving distance for you, then you are looking at approximately $1,200 to cover everything. And if there are two of you driving, you can cut $300 off of that if you share a room.
So where to begin?
First, approach your church and tell your pastor what you would like to do and solicit his support. Maybe the church or Knights of Columbus or some other group within your church could be willing to put in some money to help you meet your goal. Then, have a bake sale at your church and publicize what the proceeds will be used for. (That is the key!)
If you have a chapter in your community, contact them to see if they are sending anyone to attend the convention. If they are not, they might very well be interested in helping you get there.
Host a community yard sale with the proceeds going towards your trip to NRLC 2012.
If you are still short funds, maybe your pastor would allow you to run a message in the church bulletin…listing how much you need and what it will go for.
The plus side of having a member of your church attend the convention is you will be able to report, first hand, back to them. You will be able to cover all kinds of issues and topics and bring home CDs and DVDs and materials, etc. You can present information to the youth and how they can become more involved and be a major part of saving lives.
There are many advantages that you will be able to offer by attending the convention. If we can help in any way, I hope you will contact us. But make it a priority. Set your mind to doing it and to making it happen.
