In the midst of a turbulent and, as it turned out pivotal time, Donald Trump turned to Kellyanne Conway to be his new campaign manager. She was widely credited with righting the ship, paving the way for pro-life President-elect Trump’s unexpected victory over pro-abortion Hillary Clinton.
It’s been announced the Conway, who has served as a senior adviser to his transition team and founder and owner of The Polling Company, Inc./WomanTrend, will serve as counselor to the President, a hugely influential position.
“Kellyanne Conway has been a trusted advisor and strategist who played a crucial role in my victory,” Trump said in a statement. “She is a tireless and tenacious advocate of my agenda and has amazing insights on how to effectively communicate our message. I am pleased that she will be part of my senior team in the West Wing.”
For her part, Conway said “I want to thank the president-elect for this amazing opportunity.” She added, “A Trump presidency will bring real change to Washington and to Americans across this great nation. I am humbled and honored to play a role in helping transform the movement he has led into a real agenda of action and results.”
Back in August, when Conway came on board the Trump campaign, it was a testimony to the bias against the Trump campaign that it went virtually unnoticed that she was the first female to head a major presidential campaign
But what did not go unnoticed by pro-lifers is that a movement pro-lifer, someone who has labored in the trenches for decades on behalf of unborn babies, someone who in the past has polled for National Right to Life, was now in charge.
“Kellyanne is very, very smart and without question more knowledgeable about public opinion on abortion than any other pollster,” David. N. O’Steen, Ph.D., executive director of National Right to Life said at the time. “She will provide Trump with savvy insight and advice as he runs against the most pro-abortion presidential candidate ever in Hillary Clinton, and a media establishment that is determined to elect her.”
All that proved to be true. In addition, second only to the candidate himself, Conway was the public face of the campaign. She appeared on every talk show and calmly fended off even the most hostile line of questioning.
In addition to having addressed the National Right to Life board of directors, Mrs. Conway delivered a general session speech at the 2006 National Right to Life convention. I remember her comments vividly because she patiently explained what happens when people are asked honest questions about abortion, not questions geared to inflate the “pro-choice” response: “83% of those surveyed want some kind of restriction on the unfettered access to abortion,” was her conclusion.
Her polling company, inc./WomanTrend is a privately-held, woman-owned corporation currently in its 21st year of operation and headquartered in Washington, DC. It is no exaggeration to say she is arguably the most quoted and noted pollster on the national scene.
Mrs.Conway really has polled for a veritable “who’s who” of pro-life candidates, including Mr. Trump’s pro-life vice presidential running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence with whom she is very close.
Her polling talents are undeniable. In 2012 Mrs. Conway and her team were among the few on the GOP side to predict the outcomes of major races. In 2014, all of their general election candidates won. The RNC tasked Kellyanne with helping to defeat the bogus “War on Women.”
Kellyanne joins a long line of pro-lifers in key positions in the new administration. A partial list includes Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, as Attorney General; Georgia Rep. Tom Price, secretary of Health and Human Services; Chief of Staff Reince Preibus; Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos; HUD secretary Dr. Ben Carson; Secretary of Labor Andrew Puzder; former Texas Gov. Rick Perry to lead the Department of Energy; Rep. Mike Pompeo to be director of the CIA; Scott Pruitt who will be director of the Environmental Protection Agency; and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who will be our nation’s ambassador to the U.N.
O’Steen concluded, “In choosing pro-life Kellyanne Conway to be counselor to the President, President-elect Donald Trump has not only availed himself of one of the most talented advisors possible, he has also sent a strong signal to the entire Pro-Life Movement about his own commitment to the pro-life issue.”
