The Pro-Life Movement: a ray of light in the darkness

Published on

It is encouraging to note that the pro-life movement is stronger than ever and making progress. At the state level, there have been historic gains, with 282 pro-life laws enacted since 2010. These include laws to stop dismemberment abortions, require a 72-hour waiting period, and informed consent.

In the last year alone, nine significant pro-life measures have passed the House, including the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, and the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. We would like to extend our gratitude to Speaker Ryan, Majority Leader McCarthy, Whip Scalise, and Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers for their contributions.

While Hillary Clinton supports abortion on demand until birth and the repeal of the Hyde Amendment, a new Marist poll indicates that a growing number of Americans favor pro-life protections. Additionally, opposition to taxpayer funding for abortion has increased from 61% in 2009 to 68% today.

Planned Parenthood represents a significant aspect of a complex issue. It is a multibillion-dollar industry that plays a role in the termination of pregnancies and the well-being of women.

It is estimated that over $500 million in taxpayer dollars are allocated to Planned Parenthood each year. This funding enables the organization to perform procedures that result in the death of a baby every two minutes. Since 1973, this has resulted in the death of over seven million innocent children. Some have referred to this as “Child Abuse Inc.”

Recent undercover videos by the Center for Medical Progress have exposed a number of high-level Planned Parenthood leaders discussing the procurement of children’s organs for a price. At the same time, they have been observed altering the procedure for the removal of organs from recently killed babies in order to preserve the organs’ “intactness.” These videos can be viewed at centerformedicalprogress.org.

This is not the first time that Planned Parenthood has been caught doing something that many people find difficult to comprehend. It is clear that many politicians, including our Nobel Peace Prize-winning President, and a significant portion of the media, have not yet fully recognized the gravity of these human rights abuses. It is crucial that we, as a society, take a stand against this culture of death.

We must recognize that we are the antidote to this darkness. We must be the ones to defend life with all the courage, insight, compassion, and love we can muster. We must not back down, give up, or get discouraged. We must persevere. We must ask God for strength. It would be beneficial to combine persistent prayer and Esther-like fasting with smart and diligent pro-life work at every level, including the political.

It is to be hoped that American policies will change and protect the weakest and most vulnerable at some point in the future. In the meantime, you will have been an important part of that human rights struggle.
