An 18-year-old St. Paul man faces up to 67 years in prison if convicted of one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child, aggravated battery of an unborn child, and misdemeanor battery in a July 10 assault in which Jessy Jordan Holtzkamp is accused of trying to induce a miscarriage by punching his girlfriend repeatedly in the stomach. Fortunately, the baby was not killed.
According to WCCO-TV police were called by a worker to a motel in Prescott, Wisconsin, around 8 in the evening. “When authorities arrived, the woman was laying in fetal position in a lot of pain in her stomach,” WCCO reported. “A man intervened, telling police he was Holtzkamp and they told him to leave the room.”
Subsequently a witness took Holtzkamp away and told police that Krystal Alters-Meulemans, 27,—who was 13 weeks pregnant—said that Holtkamp had attempted to induce a miscarriage by punching her several times in the stomach. But, according to the complaint filed by police, she would not sign a document that would allow them to talk to a doctor regarding how badly she’d been injured.
The complaint states a third witness at the scene took Holtzkamp out of the room, then stopped to talk with police. The witness told police the female victim told her she was pregnant and that Holtzkamp punched her several times in the stomach in an attempt to cause a miscarriage.
“Another witness told police she brought the female victim to court that day,” WCCO reported. “They returned to the motel with [a second] witness and it was later discovered that Holkamp had beaten up the victim on several occasions in an attempt to cause a miscarriage. Holtzkamp did not want the woman to have the baby, the complaint states.”

A story in the St. Paul Pioneer Press provided further details.
“Holtzkamp, a second-year high school senior, told an officer he was too young to be a father and wanted the unborn child to be aborted or not be born alive, according to the complaint.
“When the officer told Holtzkamp his situation would be worsened if Alters-Meulemans suffered a miscarriage, he replied, “Why I wanted that to happen; I would love for that to happen,” according to the complaint.
After he was advised he was being booked into jail on suspicion of attempted first-degree homicide of an unborn child, Holtzkamp ‘started making himself out to be a celebrity, stating, ‘We got a murderer up in here,’ ” and then started singing a song about killing the baby, the complaint states.
“When an officer asked him if he felt any remorse for trying to kill the fetus, he replied, ‘Hell naw,” according to the complaint.’”
Holtzkamp is in the Pierce County Jail.
