The ferocity of the pro-abortion lobby was on full display at the state Capitol in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania last week.
In a recent development, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has announced the cancellation of a contract with Real Alternatives, a nonprofit organization that has received funding for nearly three decades. Real Alternatives was responsible for the administration of Pennsylvania’s Pregnancy and Parenting Support Services programme, which provided comprehensive counselling and support to pregnant women in challenging circumstances.
The assembled crowd of pro-abortion legislators and Planned Parenthood officials applauded the Governor’s announcement in a chilling display of opposition to alternatives to abortion.
As Planned Parenthood President Alexis McGill Johnson asserted, Roe v. Wade represented the “floor” of abortion access. Johnson and her colleagues aspire to exceed the scope of Roe. In practical terms, this translates to state ballot initiatives that seek to eliminate protections for preborn babies and their mothers.
In a particularly striking declaration, the president of Planned Parenthood responded to the reversal of Roe v. Wade by asserting that supporters of the 1973 Supreme Court decision will be able to capitalize on the resulting public outcry for an extended period of time.
It is unclear how they will be able to justify their actions in the future if they continue to advocate for the termination of pregnancies in which the fetus is not yet viable.
In the meantime, a midwife from Berks County made the following chilling remarks: “It would be my preference to be able to provide abortions.” Currently, Pennsylvania law requires that abortions be performed solely by physicians.
A director of Planned Parenthood has sought to exploit the language of the pro-life movement by claiming that her abortion operation provides “life-affirming care.” It is unclear how the death of babies could ever be defined as “life-affirming.”
The Shapiro Administration has reallocated the funds previously allocated to Real Alternatives to four organisations that advocate for abortion rights.
It is recommended that state lawmakers be informed of the objection to the diversion of funds intended for abortion alternatives to pro-abortion organisations. An immediate message can be sent to state legislators via the provided link.
