The phenomenon of abortion has been identified as a significant contributing factor in the observed increase in the number of abortions performed.
HARRISBURG, PA – The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, the Keystone State affiliate of National Right to Life, has reported a significant increase in the number of abortions in Pennsylvania during 2022.
Statistical data released by the Pennsylvania Department of Health indicates that the number of abortions performed in the state during the 2022 calendar year was 1,632 more than in 2021. In total, 34,838 abortions were performed in 2022, a year during which the abortion industry actively campaigned to expand abortion rights in the Commonwealth.
Maria Gallagher, legislative director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, has expressed concern about the increase in abortions in the state. “The increase in abortions can be attributed to the actions of the abortion industry, colloquially referred to as ‘Big Abortion’. Furthermore, Gallagher noted that the abortion industry has been quite public in its efforts to multiply abortions in Pennsylvania.
The termination of a pregnancy represents the tragic loss of an innocent human life. Furthermore, women who have undergone abortions are often left to grieve for their lost children. Gallagher further elaborated, stating that the situation constituted a family tragedy of considerable proportions.
In the state of Pennsylvania, the number of abortions would be considerably higher were it not for the numerous pregnancy resource centres that provide free counselling and material assistance to pregnant women facing challenging circumstances. During the 2022 fiscal year, the state-assisted Pregnancy and Parenting Support Program in Pennsylvania offered women in need genuine alternatives and options. It is regrettable that Governor Josh Shapiro terminated funding for the highly regarded programme as of 31 December.
The elimination of Pennsylvania’s pregnancy support programme raises concerns about the future of abortion statistics. Gallagher further posited that the most effective means of preventing abortion is to provide assistance to pregnant women in need.
