When unexpectedly pregnant, it is a testament to the strength and courage of a pregnant woman who honors life

She was a medical student, with a laser-like focus on completing her studies and obtaining her degree. Passionate about a prospective career as a neurosurgeon, she was completely dedicated to her research and the completion of her education.

Then came the news of an unexpected pregnancy. Rather than derail her dreams, her preborn baby provided her with additional motivation.

Within just a few weeks’ time span, Maxine achieved two significant milestones: she welcomed a baby girl into her arms and she celebrated her graduation from medical school.

This stirring story is the result of the kindness and compassion she received from counselors at a pregnancy care center. Maxine’s story is featured in the Legacy of Life Foundation’s spring  report. It is a testament to the strength and courage of a pregnant woman who chose a pathway that honored life—a path of empowerment repeated daily in pregnancy resource centers throughout Pennsylvania and across the country.

These inspiring stories show us that, even in the midst of less than ideal circumstances, women can make life-affirming decisions for themselves and their families. The key often lies in the woman realizing that she has a supportive individual, willing to journey with her through her pregnancy.  

In the midst of darkness and uncertainty, pregnancy centers shine a much-needed light, illuminating the possibilities and opportunities that lie before a pregnant woman. With the enlightenment they provide on a daily basis, they are showing women a brighter future—one that honors both mother and child
