On Monday, October 16th, thousands of people from across Pennsylvania will march in Harrisburg to support pregnant women and their children.
The Pennsylvania March for Life comes as new threats to human life emerge. PA Governor Josh Shapiro, who supports abortion, wants to end the state’s contract with Real Alternatives, which has run the Pregnancy and Parenting Support Services program for decades.
The Governor wants to take funding from the program and give it to organizations that promote or refer for abortion. This is wrong.
Pro-life legislators approved the Commonwealth budget, assuming that the funding for Real Alternatives was secure. In fact, they authorized a two-million-dollar increase for the line item. Following the enactment of the budget, a news release was disseminated announcing the non-renewal of the Real Alternatives contract.
This is merely the latest example of the Shapiro Administration’s pro-abortion tactics. Previously, the Governor established a telephone hotline for women seeking abortion services, following the creation of a website directing women to abortion clinics.
The legality of these maneuvers is highly suspect, given the expressed policy of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to support childbirth over abortion.
The demonstrators who will be participating in the march next week will be meeting with their representatives and senators with the intention of persuading them to take action in order to guarantee the safeguarding of funding for alternative options. The grassroots lobbying effort builds upon previous email, phone, and media campaigns on behalf of the PA pregnancy support program, which has become a model for the rest of the nation.
The marchers are not content with merely sending a message; they seek to effect change. The objective is to effect a change that will empower pregnant women to make life-affirming decisions for themselves and their families.
Should you be unable to attend the march, you are encouraged to contact your Pennsylvania legislators online via the website www.paprolife.org. It is imperative that this opportunity not be overlooked. It is imperative that a multitude of voices be raised in support of pregnant women and their unborn children, particularly in light of the most significant pro-life challenge in Pennsylvania this century.
