It is imperative that we take a stand against the radical anti-life amendment in Florida!
We just wanted to give you a heads-up that Florida Right to Life is currently facing some pretty tough challenges. Planned Parenthood and the ACLU have teamed up to introduce a pretty radical anti-life amendment to change the Florida Constitution. If this amendment passes, it could undo all of our recent successes and take away protections for women and unborn babies in Florida. Since the announcement in May, we’ve been working hard to come up with a plan to tackle this new challenge.
It’s clear that Planned Parenthood, driven by the profits it makes from abortion, is unwilling to tolerate any threat to its financial gain. That’s why they’re trying to establish a so-called right-to-abortion in Florida’s constitution, to safeguard their lucrative abortion business.
We’d be so grateful if you could join the Florida Right to Life DECLINE TO SIGN campaign. We’re on a mission to defeat this misleading abortion amendment. We’ll use every pro-life resource at our disposal to make sure it doesn’t pass.
To prevent pro-abortion organizations from successfully gathering petition forms, consider taking the following actions:
- Do NOT sign the anti-life petition: Encourage everyone in your network to refrain from signing these petitions. Educate them about the deceptive nature of the proposed amendment (see “Why the amendment is deceptive” below).
- Make a generous donation: Support Florida Right to Life by making a financial contribution. Your donation will bolster our efforts to combat this harmful amendment.
- Spread the word: Share this message with your family and friends. Encourage them to join our DECLINE TO SIGN campaign. By uniting our voices, we can defend the sanctity of life in Florida.
- Engage in peaceful intervention: If you encounter individuals collecting signatures for the anti-life amendment, peacefully intervene. Stand nearby and politely ask people not to sign, explaining the deceptive language of the amendment.
- Pray for Florida Right to Life: Lift our organization up in prayer. Seek divine guidance and strength to overcome this challenge. Your prayers are vital to our pro-life mission.
- Write letters to local newspapers: Express your concerns about the deceptive nature and dangers of the amendment in your own words. Highlight the risks of removing parental consent laws and the potential for unrestricted abortions.
The following is an explanation of why the amendment language is deceptive.
The language of the Ballot Summary and the Full Text is intentionally vague and ill-defined. The Ballot Summary and Full Text are as follows: This amendment does not alter the Legislature’s constitutional authority to require parental or guardian notification prior to a minor undergoing an abortion.
The full text of the proposed amendment is as follows:
Limiting Government interference with abortion – Except as provided in Article X, Section 22, no law shall prohibit, penalize, delay, or restrict abortion before viability or when necessary to protect the patients’ health, as determined by the patients’ healthcare provider.
As previously stated, this amendment is deceptively worded and vague. This is done on purpose and designed to sugarcoat the ugly truth about how this amendment would undo all our pro-life work and protective legislation in Florida.
Let me explain. When they state, “to protect the patients’ health, as determined by the patients’ healthcare provider,” “health” is defined as anything in relation to abortion. The term “health” is defined broadly to encompass any reason, including mental health, that the abortion provider and the woman seeking an abortion may determine. The term “viability” is a ruse, as abortions would be accessible through birth with the “health exception.” The exception does not say “The life of the mother,” but rather, “health.” This cannot stand.
The next deception is the phrase “as determined by the patient’s healthcare provider.” It is notable that the term “healthcare provider” is used instead of “medical doctor” or “physician.” This raises questions about the specific qualifications of the provider in question. Is it a nurse, a nurse practitioner, or an abortionist? As previously stated, the language is vague and intentionally deceptive.
The amendment, if passed, would legalize abortion through birth with a health exception loophole that could be exploited. The preborn baby is never considered in this process. This is why we must stop this immediately and we need your help to do it!
The time has come for decisive action. Florida Right to Life cannot succeed in its mission to protect the lives of unborn children and minors from the dangers of the anti-life amendment without the support of the entire state. All Floridians who believe in the value of human life must join together in this crucial fight. By working together, we can make a difference.
