The reality of the unborn child’s existence can manifest in unexpected ways.
While watching a reality show known for its contentious female friendships, I was surprised to see one of the leading ladies show up at an obstetrician’s office.
Following the miscarriage, the couple suspected that the woman was pregnant. She was keen to have a child who would bring hope and healing to her life, and she was therefore very much hoping for a “rainbow baby”.
The ultrasound image, which appeared on the screen, confirmed the pregnancy in all its glory. The mother was overcome with emotion at the image of the developing human being, which was visible on the ultrasound scan. This was taken at an early stage of the first trimester of pregnancy.
Furthermore, she was fascinated by the audible heartbeat that could be clearly discerned in the preborn baby during the first six weeks of its life within the womb.
As a viewer, I experienced a profound sense of joy at this scene, which depicted a mother and father meeting their newborn child for the first time. The image was to be the inaugural item in the infant’s scrapbook.
The development of the child in utero represents the ultimate reality show. The heart begins to beat at 24 days after conception, while brain waves can be detected at 43 days after the union of egg and sperm.
The life of an unborn child is as dramatic as any series you will find on cable television. The experience is characterised by a profound intensity and an astonishing grandeur.
Those who work in the abortion industry and their advocates in Congress and elsewhere are failing to acknowledge the humanity of the unborn child when they deny the reality of the situation. Furthermore, they are denying scientific evidence and the fundamental biological fact that life begins at fertilisation.
Ultimately, the ultrasound image possesses a dignity and grace that cannot be denied. The image of life emerges from the screen, radiating potential and hope.
In terms of the fundamental issue of life itself, the evidence is clear: reality is on our side.
