Alabama:
The Republican primary for the open U.S. Senate seat from Alabama is headed to runoff election on June 21st. Due to a crowded field, no candidate cleared the required 50%+1 vote threshold to win the nomination outright. The top two vote-getters who are headed to the runoff are Katie Britt, a former aide to retiring pro-life Senator Richard Shelby, and Congressman Mo Brooks. Both candidates are strongly pro-life.
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, endorsed by National Right to Life, secured the Republican nomination as she runs for a second full term. Governor Ivey made history in 2017 when she became the first female Republican governor of Alabama. Throughout her time in office, Governor Ivey has been a dedicated advocate for life, signing numerous bills to protect unborn children and their mothers.
Arkansas:
Incumbent Senator John Boozman, endorsed by National Right to Life and Arkansas Right to Life PAC, fended off several challengers and secured the Republican nomination for another term in the U.S. Senate. Throughout his years of public service in the House and then the Senate, Boozman maintained a 100% pro-life voting record with National Right to Life.
Former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders won the Republican nomination for governor of Arkansas, a post formerly held by her father, Governor Mike Huckabee. If elected in November, she would become the first female governor of Arkansas.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders is strongly pro-life, sharing on her campaign website that, “Every human life is a gift from God with intrinsic value that must be protected. As the next governor of Arkansas, I will be an unequivocal defender of life, keeping Arkansas one of the most pro-life states in the nation.”
All four incumbent Republican members of Congress from Arkansas- Representatives Rick Crawford, French Hill, Steve Womack, and Bruce Westerman- secured their party’s nomination for another term in Congress. All four were endorsed by National Right to Life and Arkansas Right to Life PAC in recognition of their strong pro-life voting records.
Georgia:
Football legend and businessman Herschel Walker, endorsed by National Right to Life, won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. He will face pro-abortion incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock (D) in what is expected to be one of the most competitive races of the 2022 cycle and could determine which party controls the Senate come 2023. The contrast between the candidates could not be starker with Herschel Walker being pro-life and Raphael Warnock supporting a radical policy of abortion on demand and taxpayer funding of abortion.
In the Georgia gubernatorial race, incumbent Governor Brian Kemp defeated former Senator David Perdue for the Republican nomination. Both are pro-life candidates with solid records. It will be critical for Republican voters to come together and unify behind Kemp after what turned out to be a contentious primary battle.
Governor Kemp will face pro-abortion Democrat Stacey Abrams, who supports a policy of abortion on demand, for any reason, throughout pregnancy and supports using tax dollars to pay for it. With memories lingering from the January 2021 Senate runoff elections, in which Republicans lost both of Georgia’s Senate seats, and in turn the Senate majority, Republicans are eager to reverse their fortunes in the state. Governor Kemp, as well as Herschel Walker in the Senate race, have an opportunity to do just that.
Texas Runoff Elections:
In the Texas Attorney General race, incumbent Ken Paxton defeated current Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush, the son of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, for the Republican nomination. AG Paxton has demonstrated strong pro-life leadership in defending Texas’s pro-life laws in the courts at all levels.
In the Democratic Primary in Texas’s 28th District, challenger Jessica Cisneros was unsuccessful in her bid to oust incumbent Congressman Henry Cuellar. Cisneros was the clear favorite candidate of the abortion lobby, wielding endorsements from EMILY’s List, Planned Parenthood, and NARAL Pro-Choice America.
Challenging incumbent Rep. Cuellar from the left, Cisneros made support for abortion-on-demand a focal point of her campaign and attacked Cuellar for his pro-life votes.
While Cueller has a mixed voting record, and usually votes with the Democrats, he campaigned as pro-life. He voted against the abortion-without- limits Women’s Health Protection Act and has voted for the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, and the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
On the Republican side, Cassy Garcia, a strongly pro-life candidate, won her party’s nomination. The Cook Political Report categorizes the general election matchup between Cuellar and Garcia as a Tossup.
