In September, Live Action News published a report on a concerning matter involving Mark Hamill, renowned for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise. Maegan Chen, a former partner of Nathan Hamill, Mark’s son, alleged that she was subjected to pressure from both Nathan and Mark to terminate her pregnancy. Chen asserts that Nathan threatened to terminate the relationship if she did not abort the pregnancy, and Mark informed her that she should not bring a child into the world that nobody wants. When Chen refused to abort, Marilou, Mark’s wife, is reported to have written in an email, “Meagan, you blew it.”
However, subsequent reports from LifeSiteNews indicate that the infant has been born and is thriving. Maegan has named her daughter Autumn. Earlier this year, Chen shared her experiences in an interview with LifeSiteNews. In the interview, Chen asserted that Nathan continued to pressure her to terminate the pregnancy, even after she had declined. One of the reasons Chen refused the abortion was that she had previously undergone an abortion, which left her feeling suicidal and depressed for an extended period of time.
Chen is not the only woman to experience regret following an abortion. Many women report facing suicidal thoughts, depression, and heartbreaking results after an abortion. Lori Nerad shared her own experience: “I still have nightmares in which I am forced to watch my baby being ripped apart in front of me. I simply miss my baby. I constantly wake up wanting to nurse my child, wanting to hold my child. And that’s something the doctor never told me I would experience.”
Women like Nerad and Chen are beginning to recognize that disclosing their abortions may assist other women who are contemplating their own pregnancies. Another woman, Megan Rhoades, posited that “while abortion is marketed as a quick fix, as a ‘right,’ as a perfectly acceptable ‘choice,’ it has very real consequences that extend beyond the loss of a child (which is significant).”
Despite Chen’s initial refusal to abort, she eventually relented under continued pressure from the Hamills. According to LifeSiteNews, a surgical abortion was scheduled, but communication issues prevented the procedure from taking place. Chen then opted for a medical abortion, taking the abortion pill. However, she later learned that the abortion had failed, with her baby still alive. It is worth noting that medical abortions can also fail, and they can also be reversed.
Following this incident, Chen claimed that pressure to abort from the Hamills persisted, but this time, she held firm in her refusal. When she suggested adoption as an alternative to abortion, Nathan called the suggestion “selfish.” Mark and Marilou allegedly continued trying to persuade her as well, telling her that getting an abortion was the best option.
In an interview with LifeSiteNews, Chen offered advice to pregnant women in similar situations. She advised them to be honest with their doctors about the circumstances surrounding their pregnancies. Chen also stated that she would never choose abortion as a method of termination. She explained that she had undergone a surgical abortion and that she had been pressured by her partner to take an abortion pill. She felt terrified at the thought of being abandoned while pregnant.
Earlier this year, Chen initiated legal proceedings to establish paternity and secure financial support from Nathan.
