A Tone-deaf and Tin-Eared “abortion access activist”

Published on

Over at “Bill to allow non-physicians to perform certain first-trimester abortions advancing in California,” I talked about the “progress” pro-abortionists are making in “improving abortion access.” In this case they are not talking about so-called “webcam abortions,” but a bill–AB 154–which would hugely increase the range of non-physicians allowed to do a first-trimester “aspiration abortion.”

As I took my latest look at the bill, I ran across a post by Renee Bracey Sherman (described as an “Abortion Access Activist”) at rhrealitycheck.org. There’s a lot of preface all to make the point how difficult it supposedly is to access abortion, a myth which, ironically, the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute dispels.

But it’s the ending that illustrates (as if it needed to be illustrated) how absolutely tone-deaf and tin-eared pro-abortionists can be.

Sherman correctly points out that between 55% and 60% of women having an abortion already have already given birth. That is doleful enough in itself. What makes it worse is what she does with that information in her conclusion.

“In the evening, I often hear clients making phone calls, putting their children to bed, telling them how much they love them. ‘Don’t worry,’ they say, ‘I’ll be home to put you to bed tomorrow.’ Wouldn’t it be nice if they could get the care that they need and be home in time to kiss their children goodnight? Instead of having to leave their families and travel five hours for a simple medical procedure, imagine if care were provided in their own hometown. I was fortunate—my abortion provider was a 15-minute ride from my house. I felt safe knowing that I wasn’t far from my home and I would be able to rest in my bed with my family nearby soon after the procedure.”

I guess if you are ferociously committed enough to abortion “access,” you don’t understand what you just wrote. These women are at the abortion clinics about to end the lives of their unborn child but are reassuring their children at home that they’ll tuck them in bed the following evening.

Sherman’s lament is that these mothers can’t be—like she was—15 minutes away from home when she had her own “procedure.”

That may strike a chord with fellow truth-believers. But to everyone else, this picture of a pregnant woman, perhaps moments away from killing her unborn child, calling home to reassure her other children that she loves them is enough to chill your soul.
