Angie, a pseudonym used to protect her identity, entered the Pennsylvania pregnancy center, bearing the weight of the challenges she faced. The father of her child was pressuring her to terminate the pregnancy. While she did not wish to terminate the pregnancy, she felt trapped in an abusive relationship.

Thanks to the guidance of a compassionate counselor, Angie was able to muster the courage and strength necessary to chart a different course for her life, which included giving birth to a beautiful baby girl. Angie’s story was one of the highlights of a luncheon for service providers of Pennsylvania’s Pregnancy & Parenting Support Services Program, which is administered by Real Alternatives, Inc.

The program, which originated in the Keystone State more than a quarter of a century ago, has become a model for the rest of the nation. It provides funding for pregnancy resource centers, maternity homes, and adoption agencies throughout the Commonwealth.
In a heartfelt speech before the crowd of service providers, PA State Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York County) noted that “many people value the important work that you do.”

The Senator further asserted that it is imperative to unite in support of the unborn and to advocate for their rights. She emphasized the necessity to combat the threats and acts of violence directed against pregnancy centers in the United States, including those in Pennsylvania. Despite these challenges, the Senator commended the dedication of the staff and volunteers at these centers, which provide hope and comprehensive support to pregnant women facing difficult circumstances.

“I would like to express my gratitude to you all for your courage and commitment. Your efforts are greatly appreciated,” Senator Phillips-Hill said.
