The Republican Party’s Platform Committee has adopted language that is specifically dedicated to the protection of mothers and their unborn children.
The Republican Platform Committee has today adopted language to reaffirm its support for legal protection for unborn children. The platform states, “Faithful to the ‘self-evident’ truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed.”
“The Republican Party is the party of life,” said National Right to Life President Carol Tobias. “The language adopted today makes a strong stand supporting the most vulnerable members of our society. We applaud the Republican Party and the dedicated members of the platform committee for reaffirming and renewing their efforts on behalf of mothers and their unborn children.”
The platform acknowledges that previous Congresses, under Republican leadership, enacted the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act and a ban on partial-birth abortions. In light of this, the platform calls for legislation to prohibit abortions for sex-selection and to protect unborn children who are capable of feeling pain from abortion. Furthermore, the platform “salutes” those who provide women facing an unplanned pregnancy with support and alternatives, empowering them to choose life.
Additionally, the platform asserts that the Republican Party is opposed to the non-consensual withholding or withdrawal of care or treatment, including food and water, from individuals with disabilities. The platform that was adopted by the committee in Tampa today will be presented to convention delegates for official adoption next week.
