On Thursday, February 8th, the Maryland Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee will be holding a legislative hearing on the Senate version of proposed Assisted Suicide legislation. The bill will also be heard by the House Health and Government Operations and Judiciary Committees (HGO/JUD) on Friday, February 16th.
Where Assisted Suicide has been enacted in other states, the state would allow physicians and non-physicians to extend assisted suicide to minors, even without parental consent, and on those suffering from mental health issues as minor as depression. This marks the 7th time that this dangerous legislation has been filed in Maryland. But thanks to strong opposition from advocates across the state, proponents of Assisted Suicide have failed every time. Now is the time to let legislative leaders know that you OPPOSE Assisted Suicide.
Please go to the TAKE ACTION tab at MDRTL.org to learn more and to send a pre-written, editable, email to hearing committee members as well as your state Representative and Senator. We need to send thousands of emails, and YOUR VOICE MATTERS.
REMEMBER – Your voice is strongest when you CALL legislator offices and inform the legislative aid that you OPPOSE Assisted Suicide and urge a “NO” vote. You will not be required to debate. Phone numbers for your legislator’s office will display when you click the phone icon after sending the email message. Please take this important next step!
Thank you for standing up for our most vulnerable citizens and keeping them safe from Assisted Suicide.
