I always approach National Adoption Month with a feeling of expectation and joy.
Both sides of my family tree have been blessed with beautiful adoption stories. My life has been greatly enhanced by the presence of these precious people in my life.
In fact, I cannot imagine life without them. They were an important part of my childhood, and I cannot think of them without smiling.
One of my adopted family members passed away unexpectedly. I mourn for the loss of this unrepeatable soul, while hoping to carry on his memory in the most respectful of ways.
It is so sad that, in our modern society, so many people have misconceptions and misunderstandings about adoption. It can be a healing experience for both the birth parents and the adoptive parents and can be the best option for a child.
It’s important for us to share our adoption stories, to spread the love we feel for our adopted relatives and friends. So many people are unaware of the adoption success stories that are out there.
So let’s celebrate adoption, and the families it forms. While some families are bonded by blood, others are created from the heart. They deserve our respect and our praise.
