The photograph is unmistakable; it depicts a young infant, his face radiant with joy, gazing up at the camera with a broad smile. The border around the image is in the shape of a heart, symbolizing the love that surrounds the infant.
One of the children featured in CareLine, a publication of the Women’s Care Center, is Baby Remy. The Center has 32 centers in eleven states.
The newsletter I was perusing was the York, Pennsylvania edition, which featured a bold headline, “You Helped Annie Make a Heroic Choice…Adoption.”
Annie, Remy’s birth mother, is quoted as stating, “Upon discovering that she was pregnant, she was overcome with emotion and fell to her knees, crying.” However, by the time of the second ultrasound, I was astonished by the remarkable development. “I am profoundly affected—a small person is growing inside me.”
The ultrasounds evoked a profound emotional response in Annie, prompting her to make the difficult decision to place her child for adoption. She recalls, “When I saw those ultrasounds and observed him moving around, I was overwhelmed with love for this little boy. I could not imagine giving him anything less than what he deserved.”
Annie acknowledges that the process of placing her child for adoption was not straightforward. However, she notes that the strength to do so came from her profound love for him.
Remy’s adoptive parents, Ashleigh and Adam, assert that Remy was an answer to their son Kaiden’s prayer. According to Ashleigh and Adam, Kaiden prayed for a baby brother every single night for a year.
It is unfortunate that adoption does not receive the attention it deserves in our society. It can indeed be a loving alternative to the inherent violence of abortion.
Remy is a content infant, the beneficiary of the affection bestowed upon him by both his biological mother and his adoptive mother. By providing financial and other forms of support to organizations such as the Women’s Care Center, which provide assistance to pregnant women, we facilitate the possibility of such inspiring narratives.
