Governor Laura Kelly is no “Middle of the Road Kansan”

By Kansans for Life

Just a few months ago, Gov. Laura Kelly appeared in campaign ads across the state claiming to be a “Middle of the Road Kansan.” Her actions this past week have proven she is anything but.

First she vetoed protections for babies after they have taken their first breath, then she blocked information empowering women to make informed choices about chemical abortions and the potential to reverse the pills’ effects. And on Friday, she vetoed funding for women facing unexpected pregnancies who choose life for their babies.

Most Kansans believe that an infant born alive after a failed abortion shouldn’t just be left to die on a cold, metal table. That is why a bipartisan supermajority of the Kansas legislature (including all of the medical doctors) supported passage of the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act.

Bipartisan support also emerged for Abortion Pill Reversal Informed Consent Requirements. Rather than empowering women with information regarding medication abortions and how to potentially reverse the process once it has begun, Gov. Kelly chose to side with the extremist abortion industry.

And on Friday, the governor line-item vetoed the proposed (bipartisan) “Alternatives to Abortion Program,” allocating $2 million in grants to enhance and increase resources for women who make the choice to parent or place their child for adoption.

Gov. Kelly’s actions prove she is far from the “Middle of the Road Kansan” she claims to be. We call on the legislature to override these heartless, extreme, and ideologically-driven vetoes.
