In a statement released today, Attorney General Daniel Cameron addressed Yelp’s response to his letter regarding the company’s discriminatory practices against crisis pregnancy centers.
The statement is as follows:
Two days ago, I spearheaded a coalition of 24 attorneys general in sending a letter to Yelp, urging the company to cease its discriminatory practices against crisis pregnancy centers.
The letter highlighted the discrepancy in the placement of consumer notices on Yelp profiles, which were misleading and appeared on the profiles of crisis pregnancy centers but not on those of Planned Parenthood facilities. The notices informed consumers that crisis pregnancy centers “typically provide limited medical services and may not have licensed medical professionals on site.”
In response to a letter sent by this organization, Yelp has agreed to remove a misleading statement from its website. The consumer notices on crisis pregnancy profiles now state, “This is a Crisis Pregnancy Center. Crisis Pregnancy Centers do not offer abortions or referrals to abortion providers.”
This decision represents a significant step forward in ensuring that women and families have access to accurate information about crisis pregnancy centers and the life-affirming care and support these companies provide. Yelp’s timely response to our concerns is commendable.
