Couldn’t say it any better than the opening line of Kristine Parks’ story for Fox News: “Popular singer Lizzo supported abortion rights while plugging her new body-positive shapewear line on Friday on what would have been the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.”
The Yitty website describes itself as a “revolutionary shapewear brand” that is “size-inclusive” and based on “the principles of self-love, radical inner confidence, and effortless, everyday wear.”
“MY BODY IS NOBODYS BUSINESS,” Lizzo wrote in all caps on Twitter Sunday. “On what would’ve been the 50th anniversary of roe v. wade we share our stories — reproductive care is health care.”
Lizzo “promoted the clothing line Yitty, as well as abortion in a series of posts that followed,” Micaiah Bilger wrote. “These included photos of five other abortion activists with captions about why abortions are important to them.”
One of the five, Amelia, is the Co-founder and Director of “Shout Your abortion.” She wrote “Sitting with the knowledge that tens of millions of people currently live in a state without legal access to abortion is devastating.”
‘Chloe’ wrote “The reversal of Roe v. Wade has impacted me in every way possible. I was forced to be pregnant, and then my baby passed away at two days old.”
‘Macy’ said “I had my abortion when I was 17. I am happy to see people talking about this.” Talk is “normalizing abortion.”
Lizzo writes “Yitty is body autonomy. We don’t just liberate our bodies through clothing. We liberate bodies by raising our voices. As a brand committed to uplifting all people, we are devastated by the reversal of Roe v. Wade. We believe that only YOU should have a say in what you do and how you feel about your body.”
Lizzo is no stranger to abortion advocacy. Last fall, Breitbart News reported that “she vowed to donate $500,000 from her tour proceeds to Planned Parenthood, which the entertainment company Live Nation will match for a sum of $1 million.”
In 2019, Lizzo was among the “Almost 140 music artists [who] signed a Billboard ad in support of the pro-abortion effort, according to Broadway World. They claim that the pro-life laws that are being passed across the country are “draconian restrictions on reproductive health and freedom.”
Parks concludes her story with this:
The Houston-raised pop star also slammed Texas’s “heartbeat bill” at the South by Southwest festival.
“The abortion ban is atrocious,” she said. “Mind your business. Stay out of my body.”
