The extraordinary U.S. Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe last year set off a series of legislative initiatives on both sides of the aisle.
Pro-abortion lawmakers around the country have fought to add amendments into state constitutions that make abortion a right under state law. In California, Michigan, and Vermont they have been accomplished.
The question then is what will become of Virginia in this regard? Are we, too, going the way of California, Michigan, and Vermont? Or will we choose a better path?
Make no mistake, Virginia is at a crossroads.
When the General Assembly opens on January 11, 2023, we will be facing pro-abortion members of the General Assembly who are determined to pass radical “right to abortion” amendments to our state constitution. Any such amendment would remove what few remaining pro-life laws we have. Seats that have become open after the recent elections have been met with Democrat candidates who share the same radical agenda of the current pro-abortion members of the General Assembly.
Governor Glenn Youngkin has called three special elections on January 10 to fill seats: one in the House of Delegates 24th District; one in the House of Delegates 35th district; and one in the VA Senate 7th District.
VSHL PAC has endorsed Monique Baroudi in the 35th Delegate race and Kevin Adams in the 7th district Senate race. (Nominations are still pending for the 24th District). If you are in either area, please get out and vote next month!
Next fall, redistricting will influence upcoming elections and make keeping a pro-life majority an uphill battle.
Pro-Life Virginians must pay attention, be informed, and be active in their district during the upcoming 2023 General Assembly Session. You can keep up to date by making sure you and your friends are signed up to receive legislative alerts.
