In a word, a lot of coverage of the 2022 midterm elections and what it means for our Movement. Today we’ll talk about the opening stories in the “pro-life newspaper of record.”
Jacki Ragan, who directs the State Organizational Development Department, has the lead page one story. She tells it like it is in “Elections and the power of the press to suppress truth” which is “The power to repeat a lie, over and over, and over again, until people begin to believe what they know at some level in their soul is wrong.”
Also on page one, Karen Cross, NRL’s Political Director, provides an extraordinary overview by “Recapping the 2022 Elections: the Fight for Life goes On.” She writes “The most important result of the 2022 midterm elections for the pro-life movement is undoubtedly that the Republican Party took control of the House of Representatives.” Yesterday, the current Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, said that while she would remain a member of the House, she would not be Minority Leader in the 118th Congress.
It is nigh on impossible to exaggerate how much damage Speaker Pelosi did to the cause of Life, all the time insisting she is a “loyal Catholic.” As NRL President Carol Tobias said, “Pelosi’s leadership will go down in history as one that pandered to the abortion industry and engendered extreme pro-abortion policies. Her legacy is a legacy of death and destruction for the most vulnerable among us.”
In her President’s Column on page three, Mrs. Tobias does not shy away from the disappointment of not taking the Senate. But “Let’s look to the coming year as a year of growth and opportunity.” And we will.
Lastly, on page four, Jennifer Popik, JD, NRL’s Director of Federal Legislation, takes “A look ahead to the New 118th Congress.” After summarizing the election’s impact on Congress, she ends with the December 6th runoff in Georgia between pro-life Herschel Walker and pro-abortion Raphael Warnock.
“With a critical Senate race still outstanding,” she writes, “pro-life Americans must remain vigilant to retain the common-sense protections related to government funding of abortion, and must seek to push back against the radical Biden abortion agenda.”
On Monday we’ll have more Post-Election Coverage. Have a great weekend.
