Being overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of people who are eager to celebrate life

It is incredible to see the outpouring of enthusiasm for the pro-life cause in 2021. As the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, the Keystone State affiliate of National Right to Life, prepares for its annual banquet, I have been overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of people who are eager to celebrate life with us.

Some are seasoned pro-life advocates, with decades of experience working to restore legal protection for preborn children. Others are newcomers on fire for life. No matter their age or experience level, they share a selfless love for pregnant women facing challenging circumstances…for babies they may never meet…for people with disabilities…and for the frail elderly. They appreciate the continuum of life and are eager to protect it at all stages of development.

The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation next week celebrates 42 years of pro-life accomplishments. As the banquet’s printed program states, “Although 2021 brought the most pro-abortion administration ever into the White House, the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation has remained a strong steady beacon of light and life during these darkened days.

“In spite of and perhaps in response to (President) Biden’s radical abortion agenda, we see a renewed, invigorated fervor sweeping the pro-life movement. We are responding in novel ways to engage and inform the public, speaking up, reaching out, and growing a life-affirming mindset in our culture.”

And we are hardly alone. National Right to Life affiliates across the nation are marking a record-breaking year for the introduction of pro-life legislation. Hundreds of protective measures are before state legislatures, demonstrating strong pro-life momentum. Local chapters are educating their communities in innovative ways—both in cyberspace and beyond. Even with the challenges posed by Big Tech, ultrasound videos pop up on Facebook and Instagram, showing the humanity of the preborn child.

It is remarkable how ordinary people are telling extraordinary stories on social media that chronicle premature infants who beat the odds and managed not only to survive, but to thrive. This phenomenon proves that, even in the darkest of times, the pro-life message is a winning one—one that cannot and will not be stopped.
