This may qualify as the “October Surprise” to beat all October Surprises, but not the way enemies of President Trump might expect.
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the Corona-19 virus, but the good news is that the President and the First Lady are experiencing only “mild symptoms.”
Right around 1:00am this morning, President Trump tweeted
Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER.
Later this morning, The First Lady also tweeted an encouraging message:
Thank you for the love you are sending our way. I have mild symptoms but overall feeling good. I am looking forward to a speedy recovery.
Friday morning, Vice President Mike Pence’s spokesman, Devin O’Malley, tweeted
As has been routine for months, Vice President Pence is tested for COVID-19 every day. This morning, Vice President Pence and the Second Lady tested negative for COVID-19. Vice President Pence remains in good health and wishes the Trumps well in their recovery.
Charlie Spiering reported
White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows confirmed on Friday morning President Donald Trump was experiencing mild symptoms from the coronavirus after his positive test announced earlier.
“The president does have mild symptoms,” Meadows said to reporters outside the White House.
Meadows said that the White House continued to follow safety protocols and that the president was working from the residence of the building.
“The American people can rest assured that we have a president that is not only on the job, will remain on the job and I’m optimistic that he will have a very quick and speedy recovery,” Meadows said.
He noted that President Trump was probably watching his remarks from the residence.
“He’s in the residence now and, in true fashion, he’s probably critiquing the way I’m answering these questions,” Meadows joked.
The Chief of Staff said that doctors were monitoring the president’s health and that they would provide an update later in the day.
Spiering also reported that the President’s positive test for the virus will have no impact on the confirmation process of Judge Amy Coney Barrett:
President Donald Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court, Judge Amy Coney Barrett, has tested negative for the coronavirus, according to the White House.
Barrett has not seen President Donald Trump since Saturday, during the nomination announcement but has been visiting Senators on Capitol Hill. Both the president and First Lady Melania Trump confirmed early Friday morning they were tested positive from the virus.
The White House said Barrett continues to follow best practices to prevent the spread of the virus.
Sen. Lindsey Graham spoke to President Trump this morning and said he sounded “good” and “upbeat” according to NBC News reporter Julie Tsirkin.
A spokesperson for Graham also noted the Senate proceedings to confirm Barrett to the Supreme Court would continue.
“Full steam ahead on SCOTUS,” the spokesperson said.
We won’t know a great deal more until later in the day and over the next few days.
What we do know is (a) as you would expect, CNN’s ugly response to the news was not their finest hour (see Newsbusters www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/curtis-houck/2020/10/02/evil-here-were-cnns-worst-moments-immediately-after-trumps-covid); (b) Vice President Pence and his wife Karen thankfully tested negative; and (c)President Trump will be conducting business as usual from the White House.
President Trump is a human dynamo who has done more for the cause of unborn babies than any President since the hideous 1973 Roe v. Wade decision was unleashed on an unsuspecting American public.
Like millions and millions of other Americans, National Right to Life’s Board and staff are offering up our hopes and prayers for President and Mrs. Trump.
