Complaints Filed with Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill and Indiana State Department of Health to Protect Women’s Health

LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Termination of pregnancy reports (TPRs) from abortions done at Lafayette’s Planned Parenthood indicate the facility is doing unlicensed surgical abortion procedures. Two TPRs from abortions done on March 5 mark the procedure type as “Medical (Surgical) Suction Curettage.”
The Lafayette Planned Parenthood is only licensed to do chemical abortion procedures, carried out through a pill regimen.
Click here to view the termination of pregnancy reports from March 5 indicating Dr. Deborah Nucatola did surgical abortions in Lafayette and the facility’s abortion license application.
The March 5 abortion paperwork is signed by Dr. Nucatola, listing her as the facility’s medical director. Nucatola made national headlines in 2015 when she was featured in the first Center for Medical Progress video talking brazenly about fetal tissue procurement.
At the time, Nucatola was Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Senior Director of Medical Services. In the undercover video filmed in California, Nucatola discussed selling body parts of aborted children, over a salad lunch with investigators posing as human tissue buyers.
Nucatola explained how to use ultrasound guidance during an abortion to move the unborn child into breech orientation in order to preserve the organs desired by a tissue buyer. She said, “We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact.”*
Tippecanoe County Right to Life routinely reviews TPRs to ensure Planned Parenthood is following Indiana’s abortion procedure, licensing and reporting laws. It first saw Nucatola’s name appear as the medical director in Lafayette in Dec. 2019.
Complaints were filed by Kevin Niebrugge with the Indiana Attorney General’s Office and the Indiana State Department of Health [ISDH]. Niebrugge, who filed the complaints as a citizen of Tippecanoe County to ensure women’s health is protected, is also on the Board of Tippecanoe County Right to Life.
“If Planned Parenthood brought in a prominent abortion doctor to begin surgical abortion procedures in Lafayette, women’s health and safety is at serious risk,” said Niebrugge. “The Lafayette Planned Parenthood facility is not licensed to do surgical abortions, because their facility is not set-up to meet the physical building and safety standards required for surgical abortions. Instead, chemical abortion licensing rules permit a woman to meet with an abortion doctor at the Lafayette Planned Parenthood and be sold a pill regimen before painfully expelling the dead baby at home.”
Niebrugge concluded, “We urge the Attorney General and ISDH to swiftly look into the reports of unlicensed, surgical abortions at the Lafayette Planned Parenthood. Until there is a thorough investigation, women’s health is at risk.”
