Virginia General Assembly subcommittee recommends against state ERA

By Virginia Society for Human Life (VSHL)

Today the pro-abortion ERA received a fair and balanced hearing in the House of Delegates Privileges and Elections subcommittee chaired by Del. Margaret Ransone.

The Subcommittee heard testimony from both sides of the debate, and the House and Senate Patrons of the ERA bills. The packed room was calm throughout the testimony, but ERA supporters started shouting and jeering the committee and Chairwoman Ransone after they voted 4 to 2 along party lines to “PBI”–or pass by indefinitely–the ERA this session.

Three speakers from each side were allowed 2 minutes each. VSHL President Olivia Gans Turner spoke to the seriously dangerous ERA/ abortion connection.

Mrs. Turner quoted from a new court challenge in Pennsylvania. Relying on the State ERA, plaintiffs want to force taxpayer funding of all Medicaid abortions and to make abortion a human right under the state constitution.

Pro abortion advocates are continuing to put pressure on pro-life members of the General Assembly.

It is still possible that the ERA may come up on the floor of the whole House of Delegates.

It is absolutely critical that pro-lifers email or call their Delegate [http://vshl.org/virginia_general_assembly.html]. Your voice counts so much!
