“Faster than a flower blooms they grow up all too soon”

By Dave Andrusko

Editor’s note. My family and I will be on our vacation through September 7. I will occasionally add new items but for the most part we will repost “the best of the best” — the stories our readers have told us they especially liked.

It’s in the nature of the interconnectedness of the Internet. There I was looking for lyrics to a song that is strongly life-affirmative when I ran across a song titled, “Let Them be Little.”

What is it? Just the advice of a dad to, well, let your kids be little. But listening to the first lines and see if it doesn’t speak to us and what we are about:

I can remember when you fit in the palm of my hand.

You felt so good in it; no bigger than a minute

How it amazes me, you’re changing with every blink

Faster than a flower blooms they grow up all too soon

The song brought back waves of memories of my own four (now adult) children when they were newborns.

But, strangely, this particular song I found filed under “Fetal Development.” In the corner, under that category, I saw “513,417 views.” Another version of the song by another artist had 202,731 views.

616,148 views, whether they be of videos, songs, animated graphics or some combination thereof, illustrate that most miraculous process: how you and I each started out the same but ended up unique.
