ORLANDO – Thanks to the efforts of Sen. Kelli Stargel (R-Lakeland) and State Rep. Colleen Burton (R-Lakeland), Florida’s most comprehensive legal protections for women and babies is now on its way to be signed into law by Governor Rick Scott.

The bill makes permanent the policy enacted by former Governor Jeb Bush which prohibits the use of state controlled funds for use by abortion clinics. It also increases and improves inspections at abortion clinics, brings abortion clinic regulations into conformity with other ambulatory surgical centers and enhances the protections governing fetal remains.

Following the series of videos that garnered international attention exposing the practices of Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics which sold the remains of babies whose lives were ended at their facilities, Florida now joins Texas which previously enacted similar comprehensive measures. However, the pro-abortion coalition has appealed the Texas law and the Supreme Court heard oral arguments March 3.

That is why it is even more important than ever that we elect a president who will appoint a Supreme Court justice that will be the tie-breaking vote in favor of life, following the passing of Justice Antonin Scalia.

As Florida faces its March 15th presidential primary, it is crucial that voters who respect life cast their ballots in favor of the most important human rights issue of our time.
