James’ Story: adopted instead of a victim of a forced abortion

Published on

On September 19th, our James celebrated his second birthday. This infant was scheduled to undergo a forced abortion, but divine intervention resulted in his placement in our family. Our daughter and son-in-law were introduced to a Chinese university student who was pregnant by her Chinese boyfriend. They were to be married, but he terminated the relationship. This young woman’s father and her former boyfriend collaborated to persuade her to undergo an abortion.

The young woman was directed by a woman who ministered to foreign students at the university to a local pregnancy care center. She decided to carry the baby to term, fearful of her former boyfriend. She subsequently came to stay with our daughter.

After residing in their domicile for a few months, she approached our daughter and son-in-law about adopting her infant. The requisite legal procedures were completed, and on September 19th, they found themselves in a hospital room adjacent to the delivery room, awaiting the birth of James.

Just a few minutes old, James entered our lives. I acknowledge that my perspective may be somewhat biased, but he is a sweet and precious boy, with dimples and a laugh that is infectious. The adoption has been finalized, and James is now considered to be ours.
The birth mother is currently pursuing her graduate degree and attends church with our daughter and her family, including James. She visits him on occasion.

James has welcomed a new sister, also Chinese, who was adopted from an orphanage in China. She is one year older than James and addresses him as “baby.” It remains to be seen whether this will be perceived as an appropriate relationship as James matures. The family is certainly remarkable. While challenges undoubtedly exist, the positive aspects undoubtedly outweigh these.

It is difficult to imagine our lives without these two wonderful children. We are fortunate to be able to observe and participate in their future lives, marveling as they grow to become the individuals God has planned for them. This experience should prompt us to consider opening our hearts and homes to those who would otherwise have been killed in an abortion clinic. Adoption represents a superior and more beneficial option.
