In spite of growing anti-life opposition, about 2,500 pro-life faithful mobilized for the March for Life in Zurich, drawing attention to the right to life of every unborn child, especially those with Down syndrome.
Such public pro-life marches require police protection in German-speaking countries. Over recent years, threats by anti-life demonstrators have become more violent and more blasphemous. At times it appears that the police, possibly on orders from politicians, do very little to block anti-life demonstrators from intimidating pro-life participants who march in peace.
The Zurich event placed special emphasis on the dignity of persons with Down syndrome, approximately 90% of whom are killed in the womb. Those who spoke to this deplorable trend at the event were Professor Holm Schneider, a pediatric doctor, author, and geneticist; a young woman with Down syndrome who spoke frankly and humorously about the value and the joys of her life; and a mother who spoke about her family life raising a child with Down syndrome.
Such efforts of the pro-life movement continue to bring the Culture of Life to the public square, in open defiance of anti-life trends, especially the massacre that occurs every day through legalized abortion.
Organizers who are planning the 2015 March for Life in western Switzerland gladly announced that Bishop Charles Morerod of Fribourg would participate in and support this pro-life effort.
