Over the years we’ve written a great deal about the tragic and wholly unnecessary death of Terri Schindler Schiavo, the severely disabled Florida woman whose case was at the heart of our country’s debate over the right to life of the medically dependent and disabled. National Right to Life President and Pro-Life Perspective Host Carol Tobias reminds us that next month marks the seventh anniversary of Terri’s court-sanctioned death.
Mrs. Tobias uses today’s PLP broadcast to talk about The Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Foundation, originally established by Terri’s Family to save her, which has continued on to help others, like Terri, who are facing death by starvation and dehydration. Specifically, how the Foundation has set aside March 31 as “Terri’s Day – An International Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Terri Schindler Schiavo and All of Our Vulnerable Brothers and Sisters.”
Mrs. Tobias encourages her listeners to remember that
“Terri’s death must touch us all to stand for life and compassion. Terri’s Day serves as a reminder of how precious life is, and of just how vital it is that we speak up for the innocent who have been deprived of their voice and their rights. Though she had committed no crime, Terri was sentenced to death. Her disability caused a court to view her as less that human, and undeserving of the most basic rights that we enjoy as American’s. This injustice should stir all of our hearts to speak out for life.”
The Foundation proudly offers educational and prayer materials that can be used by parishes, disability and pro-life groups and all communities to observe Terri’s Day. “The atrocious manner in which she was killed must never be allowed to take place again,” Mrs. Tobias said. “Her day offers an opportunity for all of us to reflect upon her life, her death, and what we can do to prevent it from happening to anyone else.”
There is much, much more on today’s broadcast, which you can hear at www.prolifeperspective.com, especially about how you can honor Terri’s memory. For more information about Terri’s day and the work of the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation and “Terri’s Day,” visit the Foundation’s website at www.TerrisFight.org.
Tomorrow Mrs. Tobias talks about former Congressman J.C. Watts as part of PLP’s Pro-Life Perspective’s “Black Pro-Life Pioneers” series.
