URBAN WEBSITE LAUNCH: Care Net Provides Tools for Developing Life-Affirming Urban Communities

Editor’s note. The following was sent out today by Care Net.

Care Net today launched www.careneturban.org. The new website is designed to be an online gathering place for life-affirming urban community organizers.

Dean Nelson, Care Net’s Vice President for Underserved Outreach, had this to say: “Life-affirming options should be available for every woman experiencing an unexpected pregnancy. Pregnancy resource centers empower women who might otherwise feel that abortion is their only option. No woman should experience a forced, coerced or otherwise unwanted abortion. That’s why we want to make compassionate, non-judgmental, caring support and medically accurate information available for every woman – regardless of the economic, relational or environmental challenges she faces.”

Melinda Delahoyde, President of Care Net, added:

“We hope this website will be a resource for urban leaders who are seeking to empower life-affirming decisions in their communities.”

According to recent CDC reports, 41 percent of pregnancies in New York City end in abortion, with the highest impact on African American and Hispanic communities. These reports also show that African American and Hispanic women experience significantly higher abortion rates than Caucasian and Asian women in most urban areas.
