I was going to write about this yesterday, but time got away from me. Since then there have been a couple of very nice exposes of an absurdly biased Associated Press poll.
So why do I bother to take five minutes of your time to debunk a AP poll that makes pro-abortion President Barack Obama seem like he is far better shape than he is? You mean, besides showing that he is worse shape than the AP insists he is? Well, because we will see this pattern of deception repeated over and over the closer we get to November 2012.
The gist of the poll is that Obama’s approval rating has “hit its highest point in two years—60%–and “worrisome signs to Republicans” are that his approval has jumped in two of Obama’s weakest areas: the economy and among Independents.
So, if that is not the case, how did the AP reach these conclusions?
The same way similar friendly outlets do.
First, by sampling a group that is far more Democratic than the general electorate (a 17% advantage when it’s more like a couple of percentage points either way!); and when Independents are made to seem much more Obama- friendly than they actually are.
An amusing aside, courtesy of Jim Geraghty, writing at National Review Online:
“Interestingly, George W. Bush is at 50 percent approval, 49 percent disapproval, even in this sample wildly weighted in favor of the Democrats.”
