Alabama Citizens For Life held a well attended Pro-Life Legislative Day rally on the Statehouse steps, March 31. Cheryl Ciamarra, Alabama Citizens For Life Legislative Director, who moderated, held up an anatomically correct fetal model while she asked the crowd of grassroots activists this question: “Will the State of Alabama outlaw cruel and inhumane dismemberment of human preborn babies that medical science has proven are capable of feeling pain?”

Cheryl Ciamarra, Alabama Citizens For Life Legislative Director, with Bob Faust, the Regional Director of Sav-A-Life. Mr. Faust invited all the directors of Pregnancy Resource Centers and Crisis Pregnancy Centers to the Rally.
The day before the rally, the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” advanced out of the House Health Committee toward a full vote by the full House. Passage in the House “will be the hardest hurdle,” Ciamarra said, “as we have a very pro-life state Senate.” The purpose of the bill is to assert Alabama’s compelling state interest in protecting the lives of unborn children from the stage (20 weeks fertilization) at which substantial medical evidence indicates that they are capable of feeling pain. At that point, it would be unlawful to kill the unborn child by abortion.
