My favorite time of the year is upon us– recognizing and thanking God for His many blessings to us, with celebration of His greatest gift to us, His son Jesus, soon to come.
It would be natural to look at the “down side” of what is happening when we wonder how to tackle ballot measures and the obstacles placed in front of us by a radically pro-abortion Biden administration.
We have always had setbacks but we learn from those experiences and continue to move forward. We in the pro-life movement have much to be thankful for.
Consider that our 50-year struggle to overturn Roe v Wade finally succeeded. Who would have thought 18 months ago, that Roe would be overturned? And because of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, made possible by the never-give-up Pro-Life Movement, twenty-five states now have laws protecting preborn children in varying degrees.
In addition to the amazing work of the over 3,000 pregnancy resource centers, many states are enacting measures to help moms find the resources they need so that they will choose life for their children.
We experience relief when the American Medical Association maintained its official opposition to physician-assisted suicide. That position states “Euthanasia is fundamentally incompatible with the physician’s role as healer, would be difficult or impossible to control, and would pose serious societal risks.”
Let the good outcomes motivate us to continue our fight in the battle for Life. Ralph Waldo Emerson put it this way: “If you know you are right, stay the course even though the whole world seems to be against you and everyone you know questions your judgment. When you prevail and you eventually will if you stick to the job they will all tell you that they knew all along you could do it. “
I am personally thankful for everyone involved with National Right to Life. From our immensely-talented staff, to our diligent Board of Directors, to our dedicated state affiliates, chapters, and volunteers, and to our faithful donors— I echo the Apostle Paul in saying, “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.”
It is my great pleasure to work in the pro-life movement with you! I pray that God give you peace and joy this Thanksgiving.
