Pennsylvania’s pro-abortion forces  push for taxpayer funded abortion

Emboldened by a one-seat majority in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, pro-abortion Democrats are pushing for taxpayer funding of abortion in the Keystone State.

State Representative Melissa Shusterman (D-Chester County) has introduced a package of bills designed to initiate large-scale public abortion funding in PA.

Taxpayer funding of abortion is currently banned in the Commonwealth except in the rare cases of rape, incest, and to save the life of a mother. The move to expand tax funding of abortion follows a push by the abortion industry to deepen its coffers with public funds, both in PA and elsewhere in the nation.

PA House Bills 1192, 1193, 1194, and 1195 would wipe out common sense protections against government funding of abortion. The legislation comes despite national public opinion polls showing that the vast majority of Americans do not want their hard-earned tax dollars to pay for abortion—the taking of an innocent, unrepeatable human life.

The abortion industry has filed a lawsuit in state court, calling for the recognition of a state Constitutional right to government funding of abortion. The case is currently before the PA Supreme Court, and a ruling could come any time.

Meanwhile, pro-abortion forces are sounding the drum beat for public funding of abortion in the state legislature.

Democrats now hold a majority in the PA House by a single vote. While that is hardly a mandate, it does clear the way for an effort to expand abortion, and taxpayer funding of it, in PA.
