Following her Super Bowl halftime performance on Sunday, Rihanna made headlines, not for the show, but for the baby bump she was showcasing. Rihanna had announced she would have a “surprise guest” with her at the performance, and that special guest turned out to be her preborn child.
In response to why she decided to perform at Sunday’s game, she was quoted as saying, “When you become a mom, there’s something that just happens where you feel like you can take on the world and do anything. The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world. As scary as that was, because I haven’t been on stage in seven years, there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all.”
She had said that the pregnancy was not planned. “I wouldn’t say [we were] planning [to start a family]. But certainly not planning against it,” she said. “I don’t know when I ovulate or any of that type of s–t. We just had fun. And then it was just there on the test.”
As word spread about Rihanna’s pregnancy with her second baby, pro-lifers began to celebrate the fact that Rihanna was pregnant while performing at the Super Bowl – proving that women don’t have to kill their babies through abortion in order to succeed in their chosen careers. It was not lost on some, however, that Rihanna currently has more financial advantages than most women facing unplanned pregnancies do.
Pro-life activist Melissa Manion took to social media to share her take. “Yes, I recognize that she is one of the highest earning Celebrities therefore in many ways is not comparable to the average scared pregnant Mom. However, she just pulled off an incredibly impressive Super Bowl Halftime performance…WHILE PREGNANT. So the ‘you have to give up your dreams if you continue the pregnancy’ narrative is bunk! Her dreams just look different. I’m sure she could have bowed out because it was too hard but she didn’t.”
Manion also noted that the wildfire-like spreading of Rihanna’s pregnancy news highlights the hypocrisy of the heavily pro-abortion major media outlets. “All major news outlets are sharing their excitement of her second child and or baby. Not her clump of cells. Rihanna herself said she was ‘thinking of bringing someone with her,’” said Manion.
In fact, late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon pointed this out on his show (2:47), acknowledging Rihanna’s child as a human being — a “guest”:
This is confirmation that if a preborn human being is deemed “wanted” that he or she is labeled a “baby” or a “child.” But if children are deemed to be “unwanted,” then they are considered nothing more than expendable “fetuses” or “products of conception” by supporters of abortion.
Rihanna herself is an abortion advocate, speaking out against Alabama’s 2019 pro-life law that protected nearly all preborn children in the state from abortion. Though Roe v. Wade had originally been decided by a court of all men, and the Alabama law was signed by female Gov. Kay Ivey, Rihanna lamented that the legislators behind the Alabama law were men, sharing their photos and writing, “Take a look. These are the idiots making decisions for WOMEN in America. Governor Kay Ivey… SHAME ON YOU!!!”
