Drugstore abortion pill sales cut out pregnancy help, put women at increased risk

By Patty Knap

A crucial aspect of allowing pharmacies to sell abortion pills that has not been talked about very much is the wholesale elimination in the process of possible life-affirming intervention by pregnancy help organizations prior to a woman procuring a chemical abortion.

For the profit-motivated abortion industry, bypassing the very people prepared to help women choose life is a big win.

The abortion lobby has been determined to cut out in-person doctor visits for a woman to obtain abortion drugs to get dangerous abortion pills into the hands of pregnant moms faster before anyone can offer her help with her pregnancy. Abortion pills are also more profitable than surgical abortions because there is no brick-and-mortar-building and associated costs, or actual hands-on procedure involved.

Now President Joe Biden has come through for abortionists and granted their wish, with the FDA recently announcing that abortion pills can be sold at your neighborhood pharmacy.

This means that these abortions require neither a visit to the doctor nor even a pregnancy test.

Many pregnancy centers throughout the country are purposefully located near abortion centers. Likewise, the people who pray at those abortion facilities offer the truth and real help to young moms heading inside for an abortion by encouraging them to instead visit the pregnancy centers. The compassionate efforts of both result in babies being saved and moms being spared a lifetime of agony.

Without the need to go in person to a Planned Parenthood or other abortion center, there’s no chance a pregnant mom has of seeing her baby’s ultrasound, no chance of hearing about available help, or hearing about couples who ready and eager to adopt.

Walgreens and CVS have already announced that “they’re in” for providing these already dangerous abortion drugs to women. They are willing to become, like Planned Parenthood, purveyors of abortion, and sell abortion pills alongside shampoo, birthday cards, and cold meds. Rite Aid announced later that it too will be a chemical abortion provider.

Neighborhood drug stores offering abortion pills opens the door all kinds of dangerous scenarios.

What if the woman thinks she’s pregnant but really isn’t? What if her store-bought pregnancy test gives a false reading, as they sometimes do?

What if the mother guesses the gestational age of her unborn child inaccurately? This is fairly common, and of course, pregnancy tests don’t determine how far along the pregnancy is.

What if she’s under 18, and the boyfriend is older?  There’s no one to intervene in and report a statutory rape situation.

What if she’s a victim of sex trafficking?  No one can stand between her and her abuser to get her to a safe place and notify authorities.

What if she knows absolutely nothing about the deaths and severe side effects that have occurred from these drugs? That is not informed consent.

What if someone other than the pregnant mom is procuring the drugs to slip them to her or otherwise coerce her into taking them? How is that empowering women?

These real-life situations are further proof that the claim by Planned Parenthood and other abortionists that they care about women and women’s health is bogus.

Dr. Donna Harrison of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) says delivering abortion pills to women without an in-person exam poses “a dangerous and life-threatening risk” to women “due to the inability to accurately confirm gestational age and rule out possible complications,” such as ectopic pregnancy.

Those profiting from abortion are applauding the fact that now a woman feeling she must end the life of her child can do so without an in-person exam by a physician. But regardless of the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy or the mom’s frame of mind, how is it safe for her to be given and take chemical abortion drugs without medical oversight?

Conversely, the significance of the life-affirming work of the nearly 3,000 pregnancy centers across the country cannot be overestimated, as thousands of lives are saved each year through their life-affirming intervention.

These life-saving interactions will be impeded with abortion pills available via a mere run into a corner drug store.

Without an in-person doctor visit, without the chance of encountering a kind person praying at the abortion center, thousands upon thousands of frightened young women will be denied the truth they deserve to hear, the very truth that would likely lead them to reject abortion. And that many more babies will be killed and countless lives negatively impacted. …

One-third (34%) of post-abortive women “reported an adverse change in themselves, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and thoughts of suicide,” according to Support After Abortion.

These are just some of the short-term studies. We have no idea what the long-term results will be.
