Ballot Initiative to Enshrine Abortion Up until Birth Coming to Ohio

By Ohio Right to Life

On Tuesday, February 21, the abortion lobby released their ballot initiative’s language to enshrine abortion into Ohio’s constitution. The language would allow for abortion with no restrictions and possibly remove all pro-life protections for the preborn currently enacted, including parental consent.

In the language they announced, it states that it would permit abortion to be prohibited after fetal viability; however, it then states that fetal viability can only be determined on a case-by-case basis, allowing for abortion through all nine months.

Ohio Right to Life is working daily to prepare for the ballot initiative alongside many pro-life organizations throughout Ohio and the nation. Abortion has no place here in the Buckeye state, and we are ready and willing to do everything we can to defeat the ballot initiative attempting to enshrine abortion.

Peter Range, Ohio Right to Life CEO, offered additional important details and background in the Ohio Right to Life Newsletter:

A significant threat looms that we are preparing for at Ohio Right to Life. California, Michigan, and Vermont all backed ballot measures that enshrine the so-called right to abortion in their state constitutions. Kentucky voters rejected a proposed amendment that said a constitutional right to an abortion does not exist in the state. In Montana, a measure that would have guaranteed lifesaving treatment for a child who survived a botched abortion was defeated.

The battle is far from over, as the left has made their intent to bring a ballot measure here to Ohio clear. That is why we are working at Ohio Right to Life to prepare our state to defeat any measure while simultaneously working with our legislature to pass a law that protects every life conceived. Thank you for partnering with us as we seek to pass pro-life legislation and educate our state on the dignity and value of human life. We are working towards a culture that cherishes every child made in the image and likeness of God, a culture that values the family, and a culture that protects the most vulnerable in our society, in particular, the preborn. There will be more elections, victories, and defeats, but through it all, we will not stop fighting until abortion is abolished and our broken culture is restored!
