Pro-life Texas Gov. Abbott maintains lead over pro-abortion Beto O’Rourke, including 10 point advantage among those certain to vote

By Dave Andrusko

A brief update on the governor’s race in Texas which pits pro-life Gov. Greg Abbott versus pro-abortion Beto O’Rourke.

The latest Dallas Morning News-UT poll finds that Gov. Abbott’s advantage is unchanged since May. “According to a new poll from The Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas at Tyler, Abbott has a 7-point cushion over O’Rourke, unchanged from a similar survey in May.”

Among those who say they are certain to vote, Abbott enjoys a 51-41% lead!

Ed  Morrissey of HotAir.com dug deeper which produced even better news:

Abbott’s holding a better percentage of his own party than Beto does [85% to 81%], which in a state with a large GOP advantage is actually fairly impressive. Surprisingly, Abbott has a narrow edge among women [44% to 42%] and is nearly equal among Latinos [38% to 45%], plus his 21% of the black vote has to be very worrisome for Democrats in down-ballot races. Abbott has a distinct advantage among parents too [44% to 37%].

Morrissey also points out the “unique political environment”:

Let’s not forget, too, that the likely-voter models for pollsters this year may well not capture the unique political environment of 2022. It has been more than 40 years since voters went to the polls with inflation at this level and a president this unpopular in the White House. That will almost certainly lead to a significantly different turnout model than in 2018, and likely 2014 and 2010 as well.
