Is it possible for President Biden’s approval ratings to sink even further? Lower than Reuters which had the president at 38% approval? YouGov at 39%? Emerson at 40%?
Actually, it can and has dropped even further. Here’s the latest from Monmouth University:
Biden’s overall job rating continues to trend downward. Currently, just 36% approve of the job he is doing while 58% disapprove. It has now been a year since Biden held a net positive rating (48% approve and 44% disapprove in July 2021). Just 10% of Americans say the country is headed in the right direction while 88% say it is on the wrong track. This marks an all-time low for this question going back to 2013. The prior low was recorded in May of this year at 18% right direction and 79% wrong track. Just 15% approve of the job Congress is doing, matching the May result.
What to say?
Well, more than a few Democrats are not identifying their party affiliation when cutting ads.
Other Democrats are far angrier. According to CNN,
“Rudderless, aimless and hopeless” is how one member of Congress described the White House…
“There’s not a frontline office out there that isn’t frustrated with the lack of action coming from the White House on inflation,” one aide told a member fighting to hang onto an endangered seat. “At the very least, the President should get caught trying to bring prices down just about every day.”…
“There’s no fight,” another Democratic member told CNN. “People understand that a lot of this is out of his hands — but what you want to see is the President out there swinging.”
How about the middle class?
A year ago, when Monmouth asked Americans whether the middle class has benefited from Biden’s economic policies, 36 percent answered “not at all.” Today, 54 percent do.
I shouldn’t have brushed over so quickly how optimistic (or not] the public is. A whopping 88% say the country is headed in the wrong direction. And, at the same time, confidence in President Biden is sinking fast.
HotAir’s John Sexton was brutally frank
We’ve all seen how Biden behaves during speeches. There’s almost always a gaffe or an odd turn of phrase. Imagine being yelled at by the president because these White House events are going over poorly. Everyone knows why that is but no one is allowed to say it out loud. Simply put, Biden seems barely capable of keeping it together on days ending in a ‘y’ and people have noticed. Having him yell at the staff about his own poor performance leading the charge sounds like a recipe for staff turnover and frustration. The only reason we’re not hearing more about this on a daily basis is that no one wants to be counted as disloyal to the party.
Stay tuned.
