Investigative journalist Ann McElhinney is on a mission. The award-winning reporter wants the world to know about abortionist Kermit Gosnell and his reign of terror in West Philadelphia.
My colleague at the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, Education Director Bonnie Finnerty, and I recently had the opportunity to interview Ann about her latest project—a podcast about Gosnell’s tragic turn as America’s most prolific serial killer.
While Gosnell was convicted of murdering three newborn babies and causing the death of female immigrant patient Karnamaya Mongar, a grand jury suspected him of a killing spree which included hundreds of defenseless babies. Gosnell destroyed so many records that prosecutors could charge him in only a handful of cases.
Ann believes her new true crime podcast—which will debut once the U.S. Supreme Court issues its Dobbs decision—will expose a whole new audience to the Gosnell story.
Ann has told the story in film, on stage, and in book form. Still, a surprising number of Americans do not know about Gosnell’s ghastly criminal enterprise, where precious babies were delivered then brutalized by having their spinal cords “snipped” with scissors.
It is a grotesque tale—made all the more horrible by the lack of response by Pennsylvania authorities. Gosnell’s abortion facility went uninspected for an astounding 17 years. Imagine patronizing a restaurant which had gone that long without an inspection—it’s nauseating just thinking about it.
The grand jury concluded that pro-abortion politics had stymied oversight of Gosnell’s ghastly facility. Pro-abortion Republican Governor Tom Ridge and pro-abortion Democrat Governor Ed Rendell decided that health inspections would be bad for the abortion business—so the officials eliminated them.
