FRANKFORT, Ky. – Attorney General Daniel Cameron joined a coalition of 19 attorneys general in sending a letter to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, urging swift action in response to recent violent acts against pro-life groups.
“Attacks on pro-life groups across the country are reprehensible, and DOJ should act immediately to investigate these violent acts,” said Attorney General Cameron. “Our nation is one of laws, and a clear message must be sent that violence against pro-life groups will not be tolerated.”
In their letter, the coalition describes the danger pro-life organizations have faced since May, when a draft of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision, in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health was leaked. They write, “charities that support pregnant mothers in need have been firebombed, and pro-life organizations have been attacked almost daily and terrorized.”
The attorneys general remind Attorney General Garland that his duty to protect citizens against violence “does not turn on the victim’s identity” and that “access to justice cannot turn on partisan affiliation.” The states also urged Garland to vigorously investigate and prosecute these illegal acts. The attorneys general suggest that DOJ begin its investigations with Jane’s Revenge, a pro-choice group that has declared “open season” on anti-abortion organizations by urging its members “to paint, to burn, to cut, (and) to jam” pro-life centers and advocates. Jane’s Revenge has claimed responsibility for attacks in Colorado, Massachusetts, Oregon, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin.
Attorney General Cameron and his colleagues also offered assistance with the investigations.
Attorney General Cameron was joined by attorneys general of Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia in sending the letter.
