Week 32: Starting at this time, true alveoli or air “pocket” cells, begin forming from alveolar ducts. Development of alveoli continues through birth and until about 8 years of age. Their skin is now soft and smooth as they continue to take on fat, gaining around half a pound per week. Their skin is a lot less transparent and more opaque as the fat continues to develop.
