The concept can seem daunting and incredibly overwhelming: How do we go about rebuilding what has been described as a “culture of life” in our nation? A culture that recognizes the humanity of the preborn child. A culture that does not promote doctor-prescribed suicide as a “solution” to the challenges that life brings. A culture that fully embraces and accompanies women on their pregnancy journeys.
It seems to me that the task begins with baby steps.
Each of us needs to do our part to celebrate life. We need to post those ultrasound photos of children and grandchildren on social media. We need to celebrate birthdays with all the enthusiasm we have within us. We need to reclaim the joy of childhood and share it with everyone we meet.
And we need to raise awareness of the inspiring work that pro-life advocates have already done and continue to do.
Many individuals are unaware of the number of people who have opened their hearts and their homes to children through adoption. Hidden also are the daily acts of kindness and compassion toward pregnant women in need. These can include everything from organizing baby showers online to offering those mamas who are struggling gift cards to local grocery stores.
We also need to continue to recruit! It is my experience that young people tend to naturally be on fire for life. We need to enkindle that flame. Speech competitions and essay and art contests are among the myriad of ways the pro-life movement is reaching and engaging the thought leaders of Generation Z.
In the end, the possibilities for reorienting our culture to one that is fully-life affirming are as endless as the love pro-life advocates hold for the most vulnerable among us. With a dash of determination and a healthy helping of inspiration, there’s no telling what miracles we can accomplish!
