A Bill Signing in West Virginia on World Down Syndrome Day

By Mary Anne Buchanan, West Virginians for Life Office Manager

The Unborn Child with Down Syndrome Protection and Education Act was signed today, March 21, by pro-life Governor Jim Justice before a number of pro-life legislators and bill sponsors including Lead Sponsors Senator Patricia Rucker and Delegate Kayla Kessinger.

Coinciding with World Down Syndrome Day, Kurt and his daughter Chloe Kondrich, ambassadors for “Embrace Don’t Erase Down Syndrome” were pleased to be among the witnesses. In the words of “Dadvocate” Kurt, “It was the BEST day ever!”

The bill prevents abortion due to disability of the baby and provides educational materials plus a list of support programs to families with a fetal disability diagnosis.

West Virginians for Life applauds the efforts of the legislators to pass this lifesaving legislation, which will take effect in early June of this year.
