Nets Ignore Historically Bad Polling Numbers for Democrats Ahead of Midterms

By Kevin Tober

Gallup released their quarterly poll showing which political party most Americans identify as, and for the first time in over twenty-five years, more Americans identify as Republicans. But you wouldn’t know that if you were watching any of the nightly broadcast networks that evening.

Neither ABC’s World News Tonight, CBS’s Evening News, nor NBC’s Nightly News could be bothered to report the poll showing Republicans now have a five-point advantage over Democrats for the first time since 1995. Instead of wasting precious airtime on local news stories like wildfires or helicopter crashes, Fox News’s Special Report gave the story a top position in the A-block.

Anchor Bret Baier brought on Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume to break down the devastating polling numbers for the Democrats. Hume started off by analyzing the key findings of the poll. “Democrats went down 7 percentage points in terms of the number of people identifying themselves as Democrats, Republicans went up 7 points. That’s a 14-point swing. That is a huge swing in a single year,” he said.

Hume then proceeded to dissect what this meant for the upcoming 2022 midterm elections in November:

I think it’s traceable to the fact that the Biden administration has so far not been able to accomplish many of the things that people had come to hope and expect that he would accomplish. You know, the unifying of the country and so on. He’s passed some measures, yes, he has. But the left is disappointed in him to some extent because he hasn’t done more. And the right was opposed to a lot of these measures to begin with, and of course, you had the disastrous pull-out from Afghanistan and, you know, these other things that have not done well.

The leftist media has a long history of ignoring news that’s inconvenient for their Democrat pals. For example, back in October 2021, ABC’s Good Morning America completely censored a new Quinnipiac poll showing President Biden’s approval rating had plummeted to 38%.  Later that same month, the networks began to completely ignore the Virginia gubernatorial election during the home stretch once they realized then-Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin was starting to pull ahead in the polls.

This is why the legendary conservative talk radio host Chris Plante always says “the most insidious power the media has is the power to ignore.”
