On Sunday’s Meet the Press, anchor Chuck Todd led off the show with bad news for his buddies in the White House and the Democrat Party. According to an NBC poll, Democrats are in for what he described as a “shellacking” in November if their prospects don’t drastically change.
Todd laid the groundwork for the big reveal of the polling numbers by opening the show claiming “President Biden’s news conference on Wednesday was designed to kick off a second-year reset of his presidency, recapture his political identity if you will.” Todd then reported on the big takeaway from the poll was that ” Mr. Biden does need a reset because he’s lost his identity a bit. He’s no longer seen as competent and effective, no longer seen as a good commander in chief, or perhaps most damaging, as easy-going and likable.”
The NBC host then went to the big board which displayed the breakdown of the poll. Todd announced: “just five percent of adults say Mr. Biden has performed better than expected as President, one of the many lowests, firsts, and fewest in our poll.” Todd then introduced a new segment called “Meet the Midterms” in which he will be covering the upcoming midterm elections on a regular basis throughout the year.
He also revealed a new metric to gauge which party is likely to do well in the upcoming elections called the “midterm meter.” Todd announced that it consists of “three poll numbers you need to know best.” Todd then started with what he believed was the most important number:
The President’s job approval rating sitting at 43 percent. If you look at history, history shows that kind of presidential approval rating leads to a shellacking for the party in power. How about the mood of the nation? Let me show you this right now. Our wrong track, the nations on the wrong track number sitting at 72%. Second poll in a row where we’ve been over 70 percent.
Todd revealed that “this is only the third time in our poll’s history over 30 years where we’ve had two tracks that off.” Todd emphasized again how bad this is for Biden and the Democrats that this puts them in “shellacking territory.”
The third metric is which party the voters say they want to control Congress. While this one is the one Democrats are currently doing the best in, as Todd noted they only have a “one-point advantage there but most analysts will tell you Democrats have to be up about four or five due to their – do to redistricting in order to actually hold the House.”
He ended his analysis of the poll results with the one rational conclusion any thinking person could make but is one that NBC viewers are surely horrified by:
Two of our three most important indexes is sitting in shellacking territory right now for the Democrats. This is a dangerous place for the party and the President to be at the one-year mark of his presidency.
Next up, Todd aired a few interviews he had with Georgia voters who are dissatisfied with Biden’s performance in office. Two of the voters Todd spoke to were Jason Murphy and Stanley Herman. Murphy said about Biden “I think he’s listening to too many liberals.” Meanwhile, Herman said Biden “was voted in with a promise to be bipartisan, but it takes two to tango, and I think he’s run into a brick wall with that.”
After airing this segment on Biden’s crumbling poll numbers and interviews with voters who want Biden to moderate, Todd thought it was a good idea to immediately turn to socialist Senator Bernie Sanders for his commentary on what Biden should do next.
You can’t make this stuff up! Todd is really that out of touch.
