She Reminds Us What’s At Stake in Abortion
By Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director, Louisiana Pro-Life Federation
Yesterday morning, ABC News published its first interview with “Baby Roe”, the daughter of the late Norma McCorvey, the woman at the center of Roe v. Wade.
As the film ‘Roe v. Wade’ shows, McCorvey, born in Simmesport, was used by the abortion movement as a pawn in its legal strategy. By the time Roe v. Wade was decided, McCovery had already given birth to her biological daughter, Shelley Lynn Thornton, and placed her for adoption. Thornton has now chosen to speak out to tell “her story.”
While Thornton doesn’t share where she stands on abortion, one quote of hers in the article caught my attention: “I had nothing to do with it,” she said. “I was just a little itty-bitty thing and, you know, circumstances prevailed.”
Yes, the entire time Roe v Wade was being argued, Shelley Lynn was living and developing. She may have been small, but she was worth protecting. Now she has a family of her own.
The Supreme Court’s 2021-2022 term began yesterday with the December 1 argument in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health looming. I hope that Thornton’s story reframes the conversation over the next two months by reminding the nation that a real human person’s life is at stake in every abortion. Be sure to share this with others, and let’s continue to pray for the Supreme Court Justices as the case nears!
